I want to share my experience applying DESY Summer Student Programme. I also want someone who is
interested in this programme will prepare better than me. Before I started to apply DESY Summer Student Programme, I ask a question for myself: What will I do if am in this Programme? There was no wrong answer, but we must responsible for the answer. For me, I imagined that I would work in what I liked, XRD. I also learned from the summer student reports (
http://www.desy.de/f/students/2013/reports/). This question will help you to make a motivation.
I have known this programme (
http://summerstudents.desy.de/) from Mb RAF, my high school senior, since 2013. My application for DESY 2014 (I like this short term) was failed and I didn't give up for DESY 2015. By the grace of Father and support from people around me I was accepted in DESY 2015. My former DESY preparation started from December 2014. My aim was to finish my application in the beginning of January 2015 because the deadline was the end of January.
My December time preparation was the beginning. I visited DESY 2015 page every week. I suggested you to do this because the website is very informative and always updated. In this month, I just prepared my passport soft file, and started writing motivation and recommendation draft in notepad. I had done it all for a month because it was impossible to finish applying it.
My January time was full of fight. On January 7th I asked sign for two ZAV enrollment (one for backup). On January 8th one of them was sent via post Indonesia because of cheap. On January 21th, I applied after FN corrected my motivation. On January 23th, Mas II and SA wished for my DESY acceptance, thanks. On January 27th I met my second supervisor to ask recommendation, then he asked my draft via email. On January 28th I asked my first supervisor recommendation via email.
My February time almost seen hopeless. Everyday I checked the post and it stated "Jakarta". I started to feel hopeless. On February 3rd, I asked my first supervisor recommendation. He was busy, but finally he gave recommendation it and a lot of suggestions. On February 6th, I asked confirmation from my second supervisor. My application was complete and I just needed a miracle.
My March time was the best times for learning English in my English group. In March 31th morning, I checked my email. There were an email with "DESY" and "Hamburg" keywords. I was quite and nervous. I told my mother first. She was shock because I hadn't told her before. I called SA then. I couldn't describe my emotion at that time.
My April was a waiting time. My first work was making new ZAV enrollment because my ZAV enrollment was stated in Jakarta. When I would send it, the person in charge said that my ZAV enrollment had been in German. I checked the post, then I knew that there was a website problem. On April 3rd, I met JASP, my high school friend who had been in Europe. He gave a lot of suggestion, but unfortunately I couldn't make notes. On April 4th, I went to Mas II's wedding and could say thank directly. Since April 9th, I had been difficult to get focus then everything was not good.
My May was a cool down time. On May 8th, I made an appointment to make visa for June 23. On May 15th, I made a new appointment for July 9th after canceling first appointment at May 13th. On May 21th, I took a photo for applying visa. On May 25th, my family received the docs of zav working permit and official invitation. On May 29th, I bought traveling insurance for 90 days.
My June was an amazing month. On June 4th, Mas MA gave a sample to fill visa form because he had gone to German via schengen visa. On June 7th, I started to packing my goods. On June 9th, I applied my visa in German embassy. I missed a blank the form, enrollment, and family invitation letter. In June 11th, I filled my enrollment and rescheduled booking ticket. On June 12, the embassy called me to fix my visa. My visa was rescheduled from 90 days to 60 days because of no family invitation. It meant that I just would work in DESY and have a week for vacation. On June 17th, I got my visa, yeah. On June 21th, I bought my airplane ticket. On June 25th, I bought my luggage.
